News transmission will be modernised

Joint secretary and spokesperson at Ministry of Information and Communication. Narayan Prasad Regmi said the service of National News Agency would be improved and diversified by using modern technology in news collection, editing and distribution.
At a press conference organized by the Ministry yesterday, he added Radio Nepal and Nepal Television would be developed as national broadcasting organizations; postal service would be developed to professional, competitive organization that could render quality service to people and Department of Information would be upgraded as information dissemination centre.
Focus would be laid on the making of Nepali films on national language, he said, adding Press Council would be developed as a representative organization of media sector aiming at capacitating dignified, responsible and professional journalists.
Spokesperson Regmi further informed that the report prepared by Minimum Wage Determination Recommendation Committee was made public; act of bringing first amendment on regulation related to working journalist was on final stage and Right to Information regulation would soon to be enforced.
Saying that Nepal Television has 66 per cent coverage access, he added the number of newspapers recorded so far in the Department of Information has reached 4,871. Likewise, 111 FM radios out of 310 receiving broadcasting license are already on-air, Spokesperson Regmi informed, adding nine televisions among 18 having broadcasting license are now on operation.
He further informed that discussion was being held with Federation of Nepali Journalist (FNJ) about how to implement the issues incorporated in the 15-point memorandum FNJ submitted to the Ministry.
