Nepal's High Level Commission on Information Technology has published a comprehensive (63pp, 641kb .pdf) Data Book on Nepal's Cultural Convention for Information Technology.

Weights and Measures

 Area

Traditional measures are commonly used. The most important of these are ropani = 0.05 ha.(0.8 ac.); bigha = 0.1 ha.,(1.67 ac.). However these vary regionally between Terai and Hills.

Weight

1 chatak (or kanwa) = 4.5 tola. 1 pau = 4 chatak. 1 sher = 4 pau = 72 tola. 1 dharni = 12 pau = 3 sher = 2.27 kg.

1 mund  = 40 sher = 37324 gram = 37.3 kg. 1 murhi = 72 kg (160 lb).
